The Complete Upmanship: Including, Gamesmanship, Lifemanship, One-Upmanship, Supermanship.

Handbooks For Life
These are the four funniest books I have ever read. And yet, the basic concepts and strategies set forth are exactly what's needed to reign supreme in all situations social and competitive. Many times over the years I have employed some variaton of a Potter "opening" or gambit, often with better results than I had even hoped. Just as many times, I've realized (too late), that I have missed a golden opportunity, or worse, have been "one-upped" myself.

It doesn't matter if you win or lose, so long as you win . .
British humor, very, very British. If you *don't* like losing, develop the skills needed so that you always win. In any social situation a definite hierarchy develops. Potter's work can be considered a manual for anyone seeking to become the top dog. This volume contains four books previously published separately: Gamesmanship, Lifemanship, One-upmanship, and Supermanship. Potter's own work in the field of becoming one-up on one's fellow man is supplemented by the researches of others in various fields: the carmanship of Godfrey Plaste; the art of not rock-climbing of G. Odoreida; the clubmanship of Hugo Coating; and the many contributions of Gattling-Fenn. Recommended reading for anyone wishing to make Machiavelli gasp in admiration . . .

Exploring the Biomedical Revolution
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (June, 2000)
Authors: Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Robert A. Potter, and Philip Leder
Average review score:

Absolutely wonderful book!
~This book is very well-written, composed of many short (c. 2 pg) articles on various subjects relating to biology/medicine, such as Sickle Cell disorder and Huntington's Disease. Not only are these articles very informative, they are interesting. ~On top of that, there are some really great pictures, including a pull-out poster of deadly microbes. ~The material covered in this book is fascinating, but it's not something that you think about every day (unless you're a biologist or you're really into biomedicine). It stimulates thought, and brings you to the realization that, yes, this is sort of cool. I was somewhat interested in the broad category of biology and medicine, but when I bought this book, I was affirmed in my belief that biomedicine is a remarkably intriguing field of study. ~I would strongly recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in biomedicine. It is a truly amazing book! 5 stars!

Focuses on explanations which are easy to understand
Exploring the Biomedical Revolution examines the work of frontline scientists and how they are changing the face of modern medicine, with chapters presenting articles on research enhanced by vivid color photos. Many titles on biomedicine are inaccessible to lay audiences; not so this book, which focuses on explanations which are easy to understand, yet with plenty of scientific detail added for those involved in health care. Highly recommended.

From Darkness To Light: Demonic Oppression And The Christian
Published in Unknown Binding by Adonai Productions ()
Author: Areon Potter
Average review score:

Biblical truths taught in this book are real eye openers!!
From Darkness to Light opened my eyes to the reality of how demonic oppression infiltrates and silently eats away at the very soul of man. The information brought to life here, will never again allow me to look at spiritual warfare in the same light... passivity on this topic is no longer acceptable. Never have I read a resource that has drawn me to the Bible in search for a deeper understanding of truth as this book has done. From Darkness to Light will without a doubt bring the reader to an embarking place where life changing decisions will be made

This is the best book I have ever read on spiritual warfare
This has got to be the best book I have ever read on spiritual warfare. Areon Potter did an excellent job in writing this book. It is obvious that he knows his stuff. Anyone who wants to know anything about how the demonic works on the Christian should definately place this book at the top of their "to read list!"

Good King Richard: An Account of Richard III and His Reputation
Published in Hardcover by Hippocrene Books (July, 1989)
Author: Jeremy Potter
Average review score:

If only all historians were like the late Jeremy Potter...
One of the greatest pleasures in reading is suddenly finding out books that are absolutely flawless. That moment of realisation that there is nothing wrong with a book is what makes me keep on reading, and reading, and reading. "Good King Richard?" is such a book. It will keep you interested, engrossed, will make you laugh, but above all will make you think. How many works of historiography can boast that, I wonder?

The theme is self evident: the first chapters are an account of Richard III's life, acession to the throne and, most of all, the facts and the opinions that were current during his lifetime. After his death at Bosworth Field we move on to the treatment given to his reputation, and how it has changed during the last five centuries.

Die-hard anti-Richards will probably dismiss this book as steeped in partisanship (obviously ignoring the fact that they are deeply partisan themselves), but they are missing the whole point. Potter's work is of an erudite and scholarly tone while remaining entertaining and acute, and he does what many forget to do, which is to put events in the context of their times. Traditionalists prone to moralising should mention what they would do if they found themselves in Richard's shoes in 1483, and they should also avoid forgetting that Richard prevented an outburst of civil war by accepting the throne.

I am quite obviously a Ricardian, but what remains unique about this book is that it is one of those rare jewels that combines acessibility with knowledge, entertainment with scholarly seriousness, a contemporary acuteness with a firm grasp of the idyossincracies of other epochs. Richard has lost a great advocate with the passing of Jeremy Potter, and the world of History has lost one of its few outstanding writers.

Extraordinary!
There is adequate evidence available to doubt the "traditional" Thomas More/William Shakespeare account of King Richard III. Since 1997, there have been two mock trials (with various U.S. Supreme Court Justices as jurors) charging Richard III with the murder of "the princes in the Tower." In both instances, King Richard III was acquitted. This book's arguments give the evidence as to why Richard and his reputation should be re-examined. Sadly, Jeremy Potter passed away in Nov 97. He will be missed.

Hanging in Judgment: Religion and the Death Penalty in England
Published in Hardcover by Continuum Pub Group (November, 1993)
Authors: Harry Potter and Henry Schwarzschild
Average review score:

The best in the whole series
This is by far the best in all of the Harry Potter book series. Brilliantly written- Harry shows us a depth of analytical thinking not evident in the other adventures. It seems as if this boy wizard has actually grown into a man wizard to write this book, full of theological and philosophical insight. I think his collaborations with "J.K. Rowling" do not hit the same mark of quality and expression as his solo-writing efforts. A must read for all Harry Potter fans!

:-) haha

Potty book from Potter
I must say this is much more interesting than his childhood memories which are Ghostwritten by J.K Rowling, in this book we get to read about Evil Englishmen who get there Just Deserts and how the good old English Religion absolutely justifies the removal of these cretins from the face of the earth, it's a kind of book best enjoyed while sipping some good old Fortnum & Mason tea, nipping at some scrumtious scones with strawberries and clotted cream and listening to Elgar.

Of course Potter is a genius and the works descriping his Magic school years are quite exellent but this work is of such excelence that it must not be overlooked, so do take me and my review seriously and read this Gem.

Harry Potter a l'ecole des sorciers ; Harry Potter et la chambre des secrets ; Harry Potter et le prisonnier d'Azkaban -- coffret 3 volumes

These books are wonderful translations
The translation of these books is absolutely faithful in style to the original, it loses nothing, and it's a joy to read! Sometimes, when the English doesn't translate well, the translator made up her/his own puns, in a perfectly matching style. (The Sorting Hat is called le Choixpeau in the French books, for example.) I'd say one wonderful use of these books would be to be read by English-speaking students of French of all ages, who are familar with the English version. They will learn a lot quickly and painlessly. :)

Harry Potter is great in English and French!
I am French and I have read all three Harry Potter books in both languages, and it is just wonderful. The translation from English into French is very good because you get the same exciting feeling. Harry Potter books are masterpieces and everyone, of all ages, should read them! Remember that there are 7 Harry Potter books in all and number four is coming out this summer! I am looking forward to the other masterpiece from J.K. Rowling. I recommend Harry Potter in French and English for one and all. Lisez les Harry Potter! Ils sont fabuleux! Vous les aimerez et vos enfants aussi!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: A Deluxe Pop-Up Book
Published in Hardcover by Scholastic (December, 2002)

Magic as Harry!
My kids loved this book, I highly recommed it. The lack of words actually stoked my kids imaginations - we spend a great deal of time imaginging what each scene may have been and/or contained. This is a high quality pop-up, I highly recommend it.

Great for ages 11 to well over 60.
Rowling herself said in interviews that the books were intended for readers Harry's age (i.e. Philosiphers Stone Ages 11 & up, Goblet of Fire, ages 14 & up)

One of the best things about Rowling is that even with a boy as the main chara, girls & boys men & women alike read it equally. If found the humer in every chapter, humor that while not sexual at all, was still too hard for children to catch.

Dont get along with your siblings? Read Harry Potter & you'll have common ground. Bored to death on those long car trips? Make sure everyone in your families read it for some indepth conversation.

Rowling is so smart & crafty, the way she actually published Quidditch Through the Ages & wrote it as if it were a real sport that had ben going on for ages.
